U.S. Navy sailors, hospital corpsmen with 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, conduct several cold weather casualty care drills as part of exercise Arctic Edge 2024 at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, March 5, 2024. The drills included performing Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) on a single simulated casualty, as well as evacuating and treating simulated casualties during a mass casualty drill. TCCC comprises three phases, each of which outlines strategies tailored to the combat environment, emphasizing the importance of the first responder in providing critical care and enhancing the chances of survival and effective treatment in the field—a crucial capability in the challenging arctic environment. Arctic Edge 2024 is a U.S. Northern Command-led homeland defense exercise demonstrating the U.S. military’s capabilities in extreme cold weather, joint force readiness, and U.S. military commitment to mutual strategic security interests in the arctic region.
