U.S. Air National Guard aircrew from the Nevada Air National Guard's 152nd Airlift Wing and the Wyoming Air National Guard's 153rd Airlift Wing, train in unison with the U.S. Forest Service and CAL FIRE lead planes during their aerial fire fighting certification and training event for the MAFFS (Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System) dropping water from the back of MAFFS aircraft near the Sierra Pelona Mountains in the Angeles National Forest, Los Angeles County, California, May 8, 2024. This is the second iteration of MAFFS aerial fire fighting training taking place at the Channel Islands Air National Guard Station, where multiple fire fighting agencies such as the National Interagency Fire Center, Bureau of Land Management, and CAL FIRE train together to maintain their certification to perform the MAFFS mission.
