U.S. Army medics with the 8th Forward Resuscitative and Surgical Detachment, 18th Medical Command, conduct a subject matter expert exchange with medics during the Salaknib 24 exercise at the Batanes General Hospital, Basco, Philippines, June 3 and 5, 2024.
One portion of the training focused on ultrasound-guided peripheral intravenous (IV) placement, often required for patients with difficult IV access. Medics with 8th FRSD described their step-by-step approach for teaching ultrasound-guided IV placement, emphasizing advancing the needle.
By participating in this exchange, the Soldiers of the 8th FRSD enhanced their and the hospital staff’s preparedness for various medical challenges, ultimately improving the quality of care available to local Filipinos.
Salaknib 24 enables USINDOPACOM and USARPAC to build a land power network of Allies and partners, enhance military readiness and interoperability, and strengthen peace and security in the region in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific. (U.S. Army video by Spc. Devin Davis)
