Marine Corps Engineer Detachment Palau 24.1 comprised of U.S. Marines and Sailors from 7th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group, under the operational control of the 30th Naval Construction Regiment, successfully restored the Peleliu airstrip in the month of June. U.S. Marine Corps pilots from Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 152 (VMGR-152) with 1st Marine Aircraft Wing landed a KC-130J Super Hercules on the newly recertified airstrip on the island of Peleliu, Republic of Palau, June 22, 2024. The airstrip was recertified and the landing was facilitated by U.S. Airmen from the 36th Contingency Response Squadron. This landing marked a significant return to this historic World War II site extending the reach for the joint force into the Pacific. (U.S. Marine Corps video by Cpl. Brandon Marrero)
