8th Security Forces Squadron Airmen respond to a simulated ground attack on ‘Big Coyote’ during Ulchi Freedom Shield 24 at Kunsan Air Base, Republic of Korea, Aug. 23, 2024. Initially overwhelmed, the 8th SFS calls in arial support from the U.S. Marine Medium Tilt Rotor Squadron 165, who provide an UH-1Y Venom and an AH-1Z Viper helicopter for overwatch. Through a combined effort, the 8th SFS retake ‘Big Coyote’ and stop the ground attack. UFS24 is an annual combined exercise conducted in support of the U.S.-ROK Mutual Defense Treaty that highlights the U.S. commitment to the alliance. Regularly testing response capabilities is vital to the 8th FW maintaining a properly postured force that is prepared to deliver airpower in the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command area of responsibility at any time.
