The Washington Army National Guard conducted a retirement ceremony for Maj. Sameer Puri on Sept. 20, 2024 at Camp Murray, WA. The ceremony was an opportunity to honor Maj. Sameer Puri’s dedication and service to the state and nation for the past 25 years. The National Anthem was sung by Sgt. Tricia Scheer from the 133d Washington Army National Guard Band and Col. Donald Brewer provided the invocation. The presiding official for the ceremony was Brig. Gen. Paul Sellers, commanding general of the Washington Army National Guard. Brig. Gen. Sellers described Maj. Puri as someone who is extremely well liked and is known for his professionalism, passion and dedication to service. Maj. Puri’s family was presented with the Washington State Commander’s Award for Guardsman Support to show appreciation of their unwavering and unconditional support which enabled Maj. Puri to provide years of exceptional service to the state and nation. Maj. Puri was awarded the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious service while serving in positions of increasing responsibility, culminating in Director of Information Management at the G6 for the Washington Army National Guard. In this position, Maj. Puri served as the principal advisor to the Commander of the Washington Army National Guard in setting strategic direction and objectives related to communications, information technology and cybersecurity.
