Soldiers from 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, commemorate Soldiers lost in the Battle of Mogadishu by running 2.14 miles on Fort Drum, New York, Oct. 08, 2024. The event honors those who fought and died during the Battle of Mogadishu in Somalia during Operation Restore Hope. The original mile was a route taken by Soldiers from a Black Hawk helicopter crash site to a rally point held by the 10th Mountain Division on National Street on Oct. 4, 1993. The U.N. armored convoy, who came to their rescue didn’t have enough seats to transport the stranded soldiers forcing them to return on foot through Mogadishu, fending off ambushes along the way.
