U.S. Soldiers assigned to brigades under the XVIII Airborne Corps fly in a CH-47 Chinook helicopter as a part of the XVIII Airborne Corps Brigade Separates Best Squad Competition on Fort Eustis, Virginia, Feb. 4, 2025. The Soldiers executed a “cold load” on the aircraft, meaning they boarded when the engine was shut down and were given a full safety brief and instruction on the procedure of boarding and flying in the helicopter by the crew chief. The Best Squad Competition is designed to test a squad's cohesion and proficiency and determine which team will represent their brigade at the XVIII Airborne Corps Best Squad Competition.
