U.S. Marines with Marine Wing Support Squadron (MWSS) 171, Marine Aircraft Group 12, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing conduct simulated emergency training during exercise Freedom Flag 25-1 at Gwangju Air Base, South Korea, April 24, 2025. Marines with MWSS 171 conducted training for medical recovery, removal, and transfer in order to sharpen their operational readiness. MWSS-171 deployed to Korea for training and to conduct aviation ground support operations for Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 214. VMFA-214, an F-35B Lighting II squadron from Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Arizona, deployed to augment MAG-12, 1st MAW under the Unit Deployment Program, which provides U.S.-based units with operational experience in the Indo-Pacific.
