Rct. Brittney Lindmeier, a 19-year-old Mountain Rest, S.C., native, is currently training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., in hopes of earning the title of United States Marine. Lindmeier is training with Platoon 4016, November Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, and is scheduled to graduate May 23, 2014. “I joined the Marine Corps because I was in [the Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps] for four years, and myself and a group of friends decided we would join,” said Lindmeier, who is a 2012 graduate of Walhalla High School in Walhalla, S.C. “We were [at a Marine Corps event], and we were talking about how cool they were. We idolized how they looked and how they carried themselves, and we thought it would be a more exciting, adventurous thing to do.” Approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Cpl. Octavia Davis)
