Maj. Gen. Deborah Ashenhurst, adjutant general, Ohio National Guard, visits with Soldiers from the Ohio National Guard, as they package pallets of water to be distributed to communities in the Greater Toledo Area Aug. 3, 2014. Ohio Gov. John Kasich declared a state of emergency Aug. 2, 2014, after a harmful algae bloom in Lake Erie contaminated the area’s public water system. Bottled water is being delivered, staged and packaged at the Lucas County branch of the Ohio Department of Transportation before being delivered to water distribution sites in those communities impacted. Members of the Ohio Army and Air National Guard have been activated to stand up water distribution sites for those communities impacted until the state of emergency is lifted.
