A sounding rocket carrying a payload for a Solar Dynamics Observatory experiment launches on May 3 from the White Sands Missile Range in southern New Mexico. The purpose of the experiment is to collect data for certain satellites that occasionally need to be recalibrated to the sun with sensors — similar to refocusing a camera for clarity.
