Energy Ethos is the shared vision that the efficient use of energy resources is a critical component of mission readiness. Marine Corps Energy Ethos, led by the Marine Corps Installations Command (MCICOM) supports the mission by ensuring energy resiliency, reducing facility operating costs, and fostering a culture of efficient energy usage throughout the Corps. With these efforts, Marines with consider how they impact energy and water use in their daily activities and strive to reduce their consumption through the development of efficient behaviors.
The Marine Corps has long been making breakthroughs in energy technology, but technical investment is only one part of the energy efficiency equation. A new focus on behavior and culture surrounding energy led to the creation of the Unit Energy Manager (UEM) Program, which launched in March 2015. The program aims to ensure energy end-users – Marines – change their daily behaviors to lower the Corps’ overall energy demand.
