U.S. Marines and sailors of III Marine Expeditionary Force and Task Force 76 are participating in MEFEX with Marines and sailors of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Marine Corps and Navy in the ROK, March 10 – April 10. MEFEX is defensive in nature and is tied into three separate Korea Marine Exercise Program (KMEP) exercises and command post exercises which are annually recurring training events between U.S. and ROK forces. The KMEP's include under the MEFEX umbrella are: Freedom Banner 14, Korea Theater Training (KTO), and CMCC CPX. MEFEX will enhance the interoperability between the U.S. Marine air-ground task force and the ROK Marine task force while honing amphibious capabilities of each nation’s Navy and Marine Corps.
