U.S. Marines with II Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF) receive a brief from Paul Baker, a Senior Armed Forces Delegate with the International Committee of the Red Cross, (ICRC) Baker provided an overview of the ICRC and their mission, capabilities, and role as a neutral international humanitarian organization on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Feb 13, 2023. During foreign humanitarian assistance operations, it is critical that II MEF demonstrates the ability to coordinate with international humanitarian organizations and NGOs in assisting local populations. II MEF is currently participating in Marine Expeditionary Force (MEFEX) which is a MEF-level wargame that exercises and develops command and control capabilities of the MEF and MEF staff in preparation for an operation or contingency.
