Gunnery Sgt. Alexander Orellana, chief non-lethal weapons instructor with 3rd Law Enforcement, III Marine Expeditionary Force, explains the importance of prong separation for the X26 Taser to Mongolian Armed Forces Col. B. Baatar, commanding officer of Tavan Tolgoi (Five Hills) Training Area, Aug. 22. When deployed on a subject, the Taser's prongs should be at least four inches apart to allow for maximum effectiveness of the non-lethal weapon. Members of the Mongolian Armed Forces and General Police received an in-depth class on the X26 Taser prior to feeling its effects firsthand, and later deploying the weapon on static targets. The training took place as part of the Non-Lethal Weapons Executive Seminar (NOLES) field training exercise, hosted annually in the Pacific region and led this year by U.S. Marines with 3rd LE Battalion. Mongolia, a regular participant, is hosting NOLES for the third time in 12 years. Orellana is from New York.
