Denis and Alex Matthes await the departure of the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit out of Naval Base San Diego, Aug. 23. The Mattheses traveled all the way from Australia to see their daughter, Maj. Rachel Matthes, who is currently assigned to the 13th MEU. More than 2,400 Marines and sailors with the 13th MEU departed for deployment with the Boxer Amphibious Ready Group.
