A U.S. Marine assigned to Force Reconnaissance Platoon, Maritime Raid Force, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), draws an M1911 MEUSOC .45 caliber pistol from his leg holster to engage targets during an advanced marksmanship range in the 5th Fleet area of responsibility, Aug. 19, 2013. The Marines conducted the range in 115 degree heat with a full combat load to acclimate themselves to harsh desert environments. The 26th MEU is a Marine Air-Ground Task Force forward-deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility aboard the Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group serving as a sea-based, expeditionary crisis response force capable of conducting amphibious operations across the full range of military operations.
