Information Systems Technician Seaman Leroy Lopez, front, and Firecontrolman 1st Class Aric Reid, both assigned to USS Freedom (LCS 1) heave mooring lines to secure the ship during the Republic of Singapore Navy's Western Pacific Multi-lateral Sea Exercise (WMSX). Freedom is underway as part of the exercise after participating in the International Maritime Defense Expedition and Conference (IMDEX) in Singapore this week. Freedom is on an eight-month deployment to Southeast Asia. The littoral combat ship platforms are designed to employ modular mission packages that can be configured for surface warfare, mine countermeasures, or anti-submarine warfare.
