    Operation Onward Liberty

U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Francisco Latimer, senior drill sergeant instructor, observes as Armed Forces of Liberia 1st Sgt. James Gant, Armed Forces Training Command senior drill sergeant, corrects a trainee who failed to perform a physical training properly during a drill sergeant refresher course at Camp Ware, Liberia. Two U.S. Army instructors from Fort Jackson, S.C., assisted Operation Onward Liberty by teaching a week-long drill sergeant refresher course as the AFL prepares to enlist approximately 150 new recruits. OOL provides mentorship to the AFL to produce a capable, respected force able to protect Liberian interests in the West African region. In addition, the OOL is developing the leadership capabilities of the officers and noncommissioned officers to maintain a professional and credible military force with a reputation as a “force for good” among the Liberian people.
