Marines with Marine Wing Support Squadron 172 use surveyor's equipment to examine a piece of land Aug. 28 during construction of a new landing pad at Ie Shima training facility. The pads, intended to support helicopter and MV-22B Osprey tiltrotor training, must be perfectly flat and hold a specific gradient.
