Cheese spread that looks more like peanut butter, from a Meal Ready to Eat (MRE), is inspected at an undisclosed location in Southwest Asia. According to public health, MREs expire about three years after their pack date, but by inspecting them at that three-year point, their shelf life can be extended. MREs that pass the inspection are deemed safe to eat and are inspected again in six month increments for up to two years past the three-year expiration date. (U.S. Air Force photo by Master Sgt.
