A North Carolina National Guard soldier from the 1-130th Attack Reconnaissance Battalion communicates with U.S. Marine Corps Special Operations Command joint tactical air controllers at the Atlantic Marine Corps Outlying Field in Atlantic, N.C., during a joint exercise, Sept. 9 - 13, 2013. The small facility and airfield tucked in the pine forests of the eastern North Carolina seashore near the Cape Lookout Lighthouse was home to nearly 100 NCNG soldiers of the 1-130th ARB. The joint operation consisted of training at nearby Piney Island and consisted of USMC special operators calling for fire on targets identified by the Marines with NCNG’s AH-64 Apache Attack Helicopter live-fire rocket and cannon coordinated air support.
