Sgt. Charles Kelly, gunner with Alpha Battery, 1-118th Field Artillery, 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, explains how they gauge their deflection and ensure it is correct to Maj. Gen. Michael Smith, deputy commanding general First Army, before he fires [Kelly's] M119 Howitzer. "It is an honor to have a general come out and be interested in my job," says Kelly. "It shows they care about what we are doing out here, and for him to want to learn hands-on what we are doing out here, means a lot. I am especially proud that my command team chose my gun, which is of course the best gun out here, to let the general fire." Smith is visiting all of the elements of the brigade as they conduct their eXportable Combat Training Capabilities rotation at Fort Stewart.
