Aerographer's Mate 2nd Class Brianna Frazier (left), of Honolulu, and Aerographer's Mate 2nd Class Kristopher Rodriguez, of Baltimore, release a weather balloon from the fantail of the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63). The radiosonde, a radio transmitter attached to the balloon, has sensors that measures meteorological variables such as wind, temperature, dew point and humidity, sending this information to the observing station. Kitty Hawk is participating in Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2008. Participants include units from the U.S., Australia, Chile, Japan, the Netherlands, Peru, South Korea, Singapore, and the United Kingdom.
