Medal of Honor recipient Rodolfo P. Hernandez shakes the hand of Lt. Col. Robert S. Patton, Jr., Battalion Commander of U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion Dallas, while members of the media and the U.S. Military Academy Rabble Rousers look on, Sept. 29, 2013. Hernandez and Patton teamed up for the pre-game coin toss, and officiated a swearing-in of new Army recruits during the halftime ceremony of the Army/Louisiana Tech game. Hernandez - then an Army corporal with Company G, 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team - earned America's highest military decoration in Korea on May 31, 1951 during a battle on Hill 420, near Wonton-ni. After his rifle ruptured, he continued attacking the enemy with his bayonet, enabling his comrades to regroup and take back the hill. He suffering grenade, bayonet and bullet wounds in the battle.
