Hispanic Heritage recognition was started by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1968 and was extended to a month-long period by President Ronald Reagan in 1988. The celebration recognizes the contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans. Brown is a data and communications officer with Combat Logistics Regiment 35, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force.
