Corporal Scott Layne, a team leader with Alpha Company, 7th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group, takes apart a HESCO barrier during a Marine Readiness Exercise, a culminating event designed to evaluate the skills learned during two months of pre-deployment training aboard Camp Pendleton, Calif., Oct. 9, 2013. The Marines had a chance to demonstrate their ability to operate in high-risk situations and carry out tasks efficiently both individually and as a unit.
