Marines with Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, fast rope from a CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter and secure an objective area during a training exercise here, Oct. 9, 2013. When fast roping, Marines deploy a heavy rope from the rear and center of the helicopter and use their arms and legs to control their descent. Once on the ground, Marines swiftly spread out and secure the area until all Marines unload. Fast roping enables a company of Marines to quickly insert into hostile or inaccessible terrain.
