Cpl. Gaven Eier, a native of Charleston, S.C., is presented the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal by the Secretary of the Navy, the Honorable Ray Mabus, at an award ceremony aboard Camp Lejeune, N.C., Nov. 1, 2013. Elias was one of four to be presented with awards for heroic and selfless actions while deployed to Afghanistan in 2011, with 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment.
