Civil service mariners from fleet replenishment oiler USNS Walter S. Diehl (T-AO 193) load boxes containing medical supplies destined for the Philippines to assist people affected by the devastating typhoon which struck there Nov. 7. Mariners worked throughout the day, in searing heat, loading scores of pallets of cargo aboard the ship. Diehl left Singapore today for waters off the central Philippines as soon as all cargo was safely stowed. The humanitarian assistance/disaster relief mission is part of Operation Damayan, the U.S. military’s ongoing relief mission to help thousands of people who have been left homeless or without fresh food, safe drinking water or medical supplies.
