The Purple Heart Medal is pinned onto Gunnery Sgt. Gabriel de la Rosa, a platoon sergeant with 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, from Holland, Mich., for wounds suffered in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, Nov. 15, 2013. “It’s an honor to be recognized and know that what we did is not forgotten, because there are only a few people left in the battalion who were there with me and know what we have been through,” said de la Rosa.
