Mohammad Abdul Samad was convicted in an Afghan court Aug. 29, 2013, of manufacturing four improvised explosive devices, one of which detonated and injured five U.S. Marines, and sentenced to 15 years in prison. His conviction was in large part due to the forensic evidence collected and processed by Combined Joint Task Force Paladin explosive ordnance disposal technicians, forensic scientists and law enforcement experts.
