Honolulu, Hawaii native Lt. Gen. Joseph F. Peterson, deputy commanding general/chief of staff, United States Army Forces Command, thanks Soldiers from the 1st Cavalry Division, Horse Cavalry Detachment, at the conclusion of his ride on Fort Hood Texas, Aug. 12, 2008. Peterson became the deputy commanding general, chief of staff, United States Army Forces Command, in 2006. Forces Command trains, mobilizes, deploys, sustains, transforms and reconstitutes conventional forces numbering approximately 780,000 Soldiers.
