CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. - Crewmembers from Coast Guard Station Yankeetown, Fla., assisted doctors and students from the University of Florida's Veterinarian Medicine, in Gainesville, Fla., by helping two stranded False Killer Whales (Pseudorca Crassidens) that were beached on an oyster bed in Crystal River, Thursday, June 18, 2009.

Doctors inspected the 15-foot male whale and placed him in a rescue sling. The group then carefully moved the nearly 1,500 pound whale to deeper water for release.
The other False Killer Whale, a 12-foot male, died due to extensive injuries.
