Two fragmentation mines lie just feet away from a roadway, Aug. 14, 2008, that coalition forces frequently travel in western al-Anbar province, Iraq. Six mines were discovered by Route Clearance Platoon, Company A, 3rd Combat Engineer Battalion, Regimental Combat Team 5, as they marked two minefields along the Iraq/Syrian border. Once the first minefield was properly marked to NATO's standards, the combat engineers detonated the six fragmentation mines.
