Staff Sgt. Lamont Hicks, an infantryman from Fontana, Calif., assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Multi-National Division-Baghdad, inspects the guard prior to beginning the next rotation of tower guard; the guard is a 24-hour requirement for the Soldiers of the Raider Brigade Base Defense Operations Center responsible for providing a strong line of protection for the men and women serving at Forward Operating Base Falcon. Hicks is one of a select group of non-commissioned officers, who keep the Soldiers and surveillance and communications equipment online, seven days a week.
