Rct. La'Kembria Williams, a 19-year-old native of Albany, Ga., is currently training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., in hopes of earning the title of United States Marine. Williams is training with Platoon 4002, November Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, and is scheduled to graduate Jan. 24, 2014. "I came here to better myself," said Williams, a 2013 graduate of Westover High School. “There were signs everywhere I went that I should join the Marines. They just furthered my belief that I should try to be a Marine. I also wanted to be a role model for my little brother.” Approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Lance Cpl. MaryAnn Hill)
