First Lt. Nick Aldrich, executive officer with the Minnesota National Guard's 850th Horizontal Engineer Company, surprised his family as Scuba Claus at the Mall of America's Sea Life Aquarium, Dec. 22, after returning to the United States from a deployment to Afghanistan. The 850th repaired and maintained convoy and supply routes, cleared mine fields, improved drainage, deconstructed non-essential bases and built a resiliency center, a gym and multiple guard towers during their eight-month deployment to Afghanistan.
