KARACHI, Pakistan (Oct. 17, 2005) - - U.S. Army vehicles are offloaded from the deck of USS Pearl Harbor (LSD-52) to the pier in Karachi, Pakistan.
The United States government is participating in a multinational humanitarian assistance and support effort lead by the Pakistani government to bring aid to victims of the devastating earthquake that struck the region Oct. 8, 2005. Pearl Harbor is conducting Maritime Security Operations (MSO), which set the conditions for security and stability in the maritime environment as well as complement the counter-terrorism and security efforts of regional nations. MSO deny international terrorists use of the maritime environment as a venue for attack or to transport personnel, weapons or other material.
