Sgt. 1st Class Thomas C. Pollard is awarded the Purple Heart by Vice Chief of Staff of the Army Gen. John F. Campbell at San Antonio Military Medical Center on Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio Jan. 3, 2014. Pollard was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group as an engineer in Afghanistan and was injured by direct fire while performing his duties Dec. 10, 2013.
