Poolees hike through the forest around historic Fort Snelling as Marines at Marine Corps Recruit Sub Station Roseville take them on a six-mile hike, Jan. 19, as part of a Marine Corps poolee function. The Marines' goal was to prepare the poolees for boot camp, as well as foster a sense of brotherhood among the poolees. Poolees carried packs and rubber rifles to simulate the heavy loads they will be expected to carry in Marine Corps recruit training.
