Rct. Mason Owca, Platoon 3012, India Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, trudges through an incentive training session Jan. 21, 2014. Incentive training consists of physical exercises administered in a controlled and deliberate manner and is used to correct minor disciplinary infractions. Drill instructors use incentive training to instill discipline and motivation while correcting minor disciplinary infractions. Owca, 19, from Brunswick, Ohio, is scheduled to graduate Feb. 14, 2014. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
