A U.S. Marine labels each improvised charge with a net explosive weight (NEW) during advanced joint explosive demolition training at Arta Range Complex, Djibouti, Dec. 30, 2013. Each NEW includes the calculated net explosive weight, standoff distance and necessary cover or uncover for each charge. The U.S. Marine Corps and Navy teamed up to increase their demolition skills, by detonating improvised charges built from scraps of material.
