Private First Class Maurice Battle, food service specialist, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, earned the title of Marine of the Quarter for Regional Command (Southwest), Jan. 15, 2014. Battle, a 22-year-old native of Cortez, Colo., competed against more than 2,000 Marines serving in Helmand province, Afghanistan, and was awarded his new title. Battle is the eldest of three children, and used to cook for his siblings before he joined the Marine Corps.
