Recruits of Fox Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, await their next command during marksmanship training Jan. 22, 2014, on Parris Island, S.C. Primary marksmanship instructors teach recruits the fundamentals of rifle marksmanship, firing positions and rifle range procedures before they are allowed to fire live rounds. At two weeks, the Marine Corps holds the longest basic marksmanship training for recruits of any United States military service. Fox Company is scheduled to graduate March 7, 2014. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
