Recruits of Charlie Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, participate in their basic water survival assessment Feb. 3, 2014, on Parris Island, S.C. During this portion, recruits must leap off a 10-foot tower into the pool, resurface and swim 25 meters. This exercise simulates abandoning a sinking ship and swimming to safety.
