Sgt. 1st Class Lamont Lang, of Devils Lake, N.D., and a machinist at the North Dakota Army National Guard's Combined Support Maintenance Shop (CSMS), uses a magnetic drill press while repairing one of 12 fairlead beams for the aircraft assigned to the Minot Air Force Base, Minot N.D. Fairlead beams are an aircraft arresting system which prevents aircraft from overrunning runways. The CSMS, located at the Camp Grafton Training Center near Devils Lake, was named a semifinalist for the Department of the Army's 2013 Chief of Staff, Army Award for Maintenance Excellence (AAME).
