Sergeant Maj. Jonathan D. Martin (right), the new sergeant major of 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, salutes Lt. Col. Jeffrey R. The ceremony is a time-honored tradition to represent a transfer of total responsibility, authority and accountability between the sergeants major. Martin is returning to the United States from a tour of duty at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where he was the company first sergeant for Marine Corps Security Force Co. This is Martin’s first billet as a sergeant major since being promoted in Feb. 2014.
