Sgt. Hector Perez, 30, from Hawthorne, Calif., and his wife, Breanna, are learning to cope with injuries he sustained while deployed to Afghanistan in 2011. Perez, who is now with Wounded Warrior Battalion West but was with 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion at the time of the incident, was riding in the lead vehicle on a route-clearing convoy when it struck an improvised explosive device.
